Catching Up: Part 2 of 3 (Johnny V's Italian Restaurant)

Good evening!  Today has been a long day, so I don't expect this post to be as full of life and humor as usual.  I'll keep this post to the point for anybody who actually uses this blog for informational use. (How many of you are there?  I'm genuinely curious what type of audience I have reading this blog.  Is it weird that I still have a hard time considering myself a "blogger?"  I guess I feel like there's a negative connotation with it.  You guys would tell me, right?)

This post is about the second pizza restaurant we visited during my hiatus:  Johnny V's Italian Restaurant in J-Town.

Since moving to J-Town recently, Katie and I have been anxious to try something nearby.  (For you out-of-towners, "J-Town" is another name for Jeffersontown, a small town just inside/outside of Louisville, depending on how you look at it)  We've already visited Chubby Ray's Pizza, also known as the Louisville Pizza Company (here), but we wanted to see what else was nearby.  I remembered visiting Johnny V's with my dad and sister a few years ago, and I was excited to revisit it.  Katie and I went to Johnny V's for a weekend afternoon lunch.  It wasn't crowded at all.

Located near the corner of Taylorsville Road and Watterson Trail, this restaurant is in the heart of J-Town.  If you aren't paying attention, you can easily miss it though, so be on the look out.  There are two parking areas/entrances that you can use (bonus points for accessibility!), with one right on Watterson Trail, the other a parking lot just off Taylorsville Road.  We parked in the "front" on Watterson.  Warning:  there is an hour limit to park here, so I wouldn't advise it for busy times or large parties.

(Sorry if I get distracted, the TV show "Hoarders" is on, and I can't look away....it's like a slow motion train wreck set to movie music or something.  I didn't choose this show, but Katie fell asleep to something on the same channel and now this is on, and I just hope that I'm typing what I intend to.  Proofreading should fix anything I mess up on.  Seriously, this is so hard to look away.  One lady has like 60 unopened toothbrushes.)

Like I said, it wasn't very busy.  We ordered the pizza shown in the picture.  As an appetizer, we also ordered their garlic knots, which are knots of bread dipped/baked in garlic and butter.  I wouldn't say they were fantastic, but I'd definitely order them again!

As for the pizza, we got the usual pepperoni, and "light on the sauce."  Do NOT order "light on the sauce" unless you like your pizza without any.  Same thing.  Great spices and herbs, the pizza tasted more genuine than other places, if I recall correctly.  The cheese was a great thickness, and the crust wasn't too soft or too crispy.

Overall, a pretty cut-and-dry review.  Johnny V's is also home of "the original Louisville Spiedie," which seems like some sort of marinated chicken that they use in salads, pastas, and sandwiches.  I didn't get to try it, and I didn't think to ask anyone.  My bad guys, I'll pick it up on the next one.

Grades:

Service:  Wasn't crowded at all.  Had to go up to the bar to ask someone for menus, but that just may be how it is.  (Grade:  B)
Atmosphere:  A little old on the inside, but it's easy to get comfortable here.  Sit in the booths!  (Grade:  A-)
Taste:  Once again, this is a solid, solid pizza.  I'll be going back, but I won't be nominating it for any awards....if I could I mean.  (Grade:  A-)
Accessibility:  Two parking lots, two entrances?  Sweet.  (Grade:  A)

The last of the catching up posts comes tomorrow!  Thanks for being so awesome guys.
