For anyone wondering how we choose which places to go each week...I'll let you know once I figure it out. I think this is more going to be about what name pops up first. I'm a laid back guy who tends to go with the flow of things, so I'm not sure we'll decide on a method to the madness other than choosing the next name down the list.
This was my first time going to the Louisville Pizza Company and Katie's second (it was a long time ago, but still). We went around lunch time, and it wasn't crowded at all. When you walk in, it's definitely got "hangout" written all over it (for me, at least). It's got TV screens of several sizes along one big wall, and small televisions at each of the booth tables. It took us a few minutes to get the TV at our table to work (they just got DirecTV, for anyone interested), but once we did, it was great! I didn't have to completely ignore Katie so I could watch the Colts-Ravens game today like I would have had to elsewhere (bad game...I don't want to talk about it, but thanks for asking).
As for the rest of the atmosphere inside, it was pretty cold when we walked in. We asked them to turn some of the ceiling fans off, and it was great after that. There is a lot of sports memorabilia on the walls, but not excessive in any way.
This place has a LOT of appetizer options, which I really liked. They even have soft pretzels! With cheese! There are a lot of other delicious-sounding ones too. We had the cheesy bread. 'Twas delicious. (Have I ever mentioned how much we like cheese? Also, I just had to Google "'twas" because I wasn't sure if there was an apostrophe at the beginning or not. Turns out, there is. You're welcome.)
Since it wasn't very busy (I don't know why, I liked this place), we got our pizza fairly quickly. As you can see from the picture, we got the pepperoni (if you haven't caught on yet, this is what we'll get EVERY week...Katie's pizza tastes don't expand much further than that, which is why this blog started in the first place).
The first thing we noticed was how greasy this pizza was. Greasy on top, greasy underneath. Greasy. Otherwise, it was delicious. The crust was somewhat thin, I'd say somewhere in between the "thin" and "hand-tossed" pizzas from some of the bigger pizza chains. If I had to pick one though, it would fall in the "hand-tossed" category. The center of the pizza was a little thinner so it got a little floppy at the front end of each slice, but that could have been the grease effect. I like that, the "grease effect." Can someone get working on copyrighting that for me please? (Don't steal it. It's mine. There's a time stamp on this blog, and I'll know it was you.) Anyways, we ate our pizza with forks because it was so messy.
We ordered ours light on the sauce. From what I could tell, it was pretty good, but nothing stood out about it, good or bad. Katie says that it was pretty sweet. I'll trust her on that one. The pizza was seasoned well, but I couldn't tell you which seasonings it had. I'm going to anyways. I think it was basil and oregano. I'm probably wrong....but whenever someone asks me about spices I just say "basil and oregano" as my go-to answers. The menu simply calls it "Italian herbs and spices." It was great though, I really liked it.
As I'm writing this, Katie is reading over my shoulder (I know! Rude) and it looks like her mouth is watering. I bet she reheats it for the leftover test before I'm done writing this.
(Time elapses)
Leftover time! We got hungry writing this, and we didn't have any dinner plans tonight (grocery store trip tomorrow). As usual, I tried the leftovers cold, and Kate had some reheated in the oven at 350 for five minutes. I would have gone with the "ladies first" and told you about Katie's experience with leftovers, but I can't resist. I...I don't know how to describe it. Have you ever had cold pizza that was still greasy? Yeah; greasy cold pizza. I mean, I still ate it and everything...but it was really greasy. It was kinda chewy, too...it seemed like if it were more than two or three days in the fridge it would taste like rubber. Katie said hers was crispier coming out of the oven but still pretty greasy, but she enjoyed it.
For the long and short of it:
Service: Good service, we never went without anything. (Grade: A-)
Atmosphere: Like I said, I'd like to make this a Sunday football hangout...too bad the Colts lost today. Stop asking about it, I'm in pain. (Grade: A)
Taste: Great pizza, really greasy though. I was tempted to dab it with a napkin. (Grade: B+)
Accessibility: Easy to get to, no problems getting out of the parking lot; handicap request shouldn't have any issues for the most part. (Grade: A)
Overall, Chubby Ray's Louisville Pizza Company was good, and I definitely plan on going back. There is one issue though. Do I call it Chubby Ray's? Do I call it Louisville Pizza Co? That's going to need some work. I'll get back to you.
